Status to date

The partners in CO₂next are currently exploring the feasibility of building an independent hub terminal for reception and delivery of liquid CO₂ on the Maasvlakte in the Port of Rotterdam. The planning includes a project and permitting timeline.

Aligned approach with the Aramis CCS initiative

It is envisaged that the CCS Aramis initiative will become a launching customer of the CO₂next terminal. CO₂next and the CCS Aramis initiative are jointly exploring the feasibility of the development of a CO₂ value chain.

CO₂next and the CCS Aramis initiative have a joint participation and permitting approach using the Rijks Coördinatie Regeling (RCR).

Call for expressions of interest

As part of the feasibility study CO₂next has been exploring market demand through an open season approach targeting interest in CO₂ services, and focussed beyond the capacity needs of Aramis.

The non-binding expressions of interest covered:

• Unloading of CO₂ vessels
• Temporary storage of CO₂
• Pressurization of CO₂ & send out
• Re-loading of CO₂ vessels
• Unloading & loading of CO₂ via railcar (optional)

The open season approach took place from December 2021 until end of January 2022.
