Second set of draft permits available for review

From December 20, 2024, to January 30, 2025, a second set of draft permits for the Aramis initiative will be available for public review. During this period, public feedback can also be submitted. An online information session will be held on January 16, 2025.

The Aramis initiative focuses on developing infrastructure for the storage of CO₂ in empty gas fields beneath the North Sea, preventing the release of this CO₂ into the atmosphere. This requires the construction of a terminal for receiving liquid CO₂ on the Maasvlakte, the expansion of a compressor station, and a subsea pipeline connecting to a distribution platform and three injection platforms.

Project Decisions and Permits
Before the project can begin, the Minister of Climate and Green Growth must make a Project Decision, and several permits are required. These permits are published in different sets as draft permits for public review. During the review period, the public can submit feedback, known as a “zienswijze” (view or opinion), which will be considered in the decision-making process.

Public comment period: December 20, 2024 – January 30, 2025
The second set of draft permits will be available for review from December 20, 2024, to January 30, 2025, on the website www.rvo.nl/aramis. The website also includes instructions on how to submit feedback.  This set includes draft permits for:

  • The distribution platform at sea
  • Three connecting pipelines to injection platforms of TotalEnergies, Shell, and Eni
  • The expansion of the Porthos compressor station
  • Species protection (flora and fauna)
