Hearing on the appeal against the project decision and permits

Yesterday, Monday, April 13, the hearing took place in the appeal filed against the project decision and permits for the Aramis initiative, issued in April 2025.

The respondent in the appeal was the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (at the time still called the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth). Both the Ministry and the Aramis initiative were assisted during the hearing by lawyers and experts on the relevant topics. The parties behind the Aramis initiative have confidence in the thoroughness with which the permit process has been completed.

The Aramis initiative consists of several components:

  • A terminal on the Maasvlakte for liquid CO2, delivered by ships (CO2next).
  • A compressor station expansion for CO2 on the Maasvlakte (part of Porthos).
  • A sea pipeline from the Maasvlakte to a distribution platform at sea (Aramis project).
  • Platforms at sea for the storage of CO2 in empty gas fields (Shell, TotalEnergies EP Netherlands and Eni).

In principle, the Council of State will make a decision within six or twelve weeks.
